ATM / Debit Cards - Should I press DEBIT or CREDIT?
The Bank of Geneva MasterCard® MasterMoney™ Debit Card may be used
at a point-of-sale location (like a department store or gas station, for
example) for a PIN-based transaction or a signature based transaction.
In other words, you may choose to press either the CREDIT or DEBIT button.
There are good reasons for either choice. Given the increasing threat
of identity theft, you might want to consider
the option of making a signature-based transaction and pressing the CREDIT
button.
| Considering that… |
The
retailer will request to verify your signature with the one on the
back of your card.
If
you are in a hurry, and feel secure doing so, you may wish to press
DEBIT instead.*
|
You
will be required to provide your PIN number by entering it in a
keypad or by saying it to the cashier.
You
may not want others to observe or overhear your PIN #. Pressing
CREDIT instead will provide you the peace of mind of a signature-based
transaction.*
